Robert Ames a professional violist and advocate of new music, plays a viola made by Yann Besson in 2010.

He performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. Recent highlights include a critically acclaimed performance of Colin Matthew’s Four moods at the BBC Proms, Jonny Greenwoods Doghouse at the Roundhouse’s Reverb Festival, John Woolrich’s Ulysses Awakes as part of Ron Arads Curtain Call at the Roundhouse and a performance of Morton Feldman’s Viola In My Life, at the Old vic Tunnels with the London Contemporary Orchestra – with whom he is Artistic Director.
The orchestra was recently nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society “Audience Development Award”.
Robert is a founder member of the Gagliano Ensemble with whom he performs regularly in the UK and abroad.
